How to Identify Bald-Faced Hornets
Appearance:
- 6 legs
- Long black bodies with white pattern
- ½ to 5/8 inch
Habitats:
- Paper nests at least three feet off the ground
- As large as 14 inches wide and 24 inches long
Threat:
- Sting repeatedly with venom, causing pain, itchiness, and swelling for about 24 hours
- Stings can cause allergic reactions
Preventing an Infestation:
- Do not attempt to remove a bald-faced hornet nest
- The wasps are aggressive, and likely to sting
