How to Identify Jumping Spiders
Appearance:
- 8 short legs
- Compact
- Usually black with pale markings
- 1/8 to ¾ inch
Habitats:
- Loose, saclike webs
Threat:
- While jumping spiders may bite
- The bite is not poisonous
Preventing an Infestation:
- Seal cracks and use screens on doors and windows
- Remove outdoor harborages
More Information:
Jumping spiders are considered easy to identify compared to other arachnids. They have larger legs in the front, causing them to somewhat resemble crabs. They also have eyes that distinctly face forward rather than all around their head like other spiders.
